Iran and Oman are conducting active talks to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. According to The New York Times, the proposed scheme would route inbound ships along the Iranian coast and outbound ships along Oman’s coast. There would be no transit tariffs, but Iran plans to charge a “service fee” for security and environmental protection, splitting the proceeds with Muscat 50/50. Bloomberg, meanwhile, reports Tehran is prepared to allow European forces to clear mines from the waters.
